Welcome to the Out Of a Limb Cycle Ride.

This fully supported ride will follow the some of the most beautiful and scenic coastal roads of Western British Columbia, Canada
Come join us for one, two or three days or the entire event.

This Charity Ride is to raise funds for G.F.Strong Rehabilitation Centre. The focus of this event is to create public awareness, regarding the capabilities of disabled individuals and to encourage disabled people to reach for an active lifestyle.

Participants:
This charity ride is designed for all Cyclists including Amputee’s and Hand cyclists. We encourage all to be part of this event.

Length of ride:
Cyclists may tour with us one, two or three days or the entire 7 days, approx. 450 km. Simply join in at appropriate start dates when you want to. Enter as a team. This is a fundraiser and open to cyclist schedules. Our aim is to have you cycle, what ever you are able too and meet some amazing people along the way.

Route:
The cycle ride follows the coastal roads, the most spectacular scenery of Coastal British Columbia. Starting in Vancouver, riders cycle north up the Sunshine Coast roads to Powell River, ferry across to Courtenay and then cycle along back roads to Victoria, finally ferrying over to the mainland and back to Vancouver.

Sponsorship:
Each rider is asked to collect sponsorship for the event. Riders are asked to collect a minimum $900 for the entire ride or $300 per day.
Hotel rooms and breakfast is provided free.
A gift certificate for Crown Isle Resort will be present to the person who has collected the most sponsorship.

For riders wishing to just ride for one day, we would love you to be able to secure $300 in sponsorship, but understand this is sometimes difficult. Considering this is a fundraising ride we hope you would be able to raise a minimum of $75.

Tax receipts will be issued for donations of $25 or more and in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines.

The Charity:
All the funds raised by individuals will be directed to the G.F.Strong Rehabilitation Centre.

The G.F.Strong Rehabilitation Centre is hoping to purchase the following :

1. Lazar posture alignment tool $10,000
2. Elliptical trainer $2000
3. Balance assessment computer $10,000
4. Upright stationary bike $2000
5.Laptop Computer $2000
6.DVD camera to film patients walking $2000

The Riders
Cyclist’s accommodations and breakfasts are provided free (thanks to our sponsors). Riders will be asked to share a room with another participant (of the same sex.) Single options available for a fee.

Cycle Support:
There will be two support vehicles following the riders. One vehicle supplied by "Reckless Bike Stores" is equipped with a mechanic and all necessary supplies. The other vehicle will transport all luggage and can provide space to any injured riders.

Bikes are available for this event from "Reckless Bike Stores", Participants can be custom fitted with a bike for this event.

A free cycle check is available at any Reckless Bike stores from September 5th -8th 2007

Out of Towner’s
Road and mountain bike rentals are available from Reckless Bike Stores. Provide us your size ahead of time and then arrive to be custom fitted to the bike.

Hotels -We were able to secure a discount hotel rate $145 plus tax, (reserve by Sept 1st) for single or double occupancy for riders at the Holiday Inn on Broadway Email your request to Mary Jane info@hivancouver.com and mention you are part of the Out of a Limb Cycle ride or phone (604) 879-0511. They have a great cancellation policy of 24 hours notice.

Suggested training Schedule:
This route will offer different daily distances and a daily selection of hills or undulating road ways. Pacing is of the utmost importance, but also pre event training is a must.

Insurance:
All riders must carry adequate medical insurance and or BC Health Care.
Proof of insurance /medical coverage is required by all riders.

Meet at G F Strong Hospital visit other amputee's, then cycle to Horseshoe Bay, Ferry over to Gibson on the Sunshine Coast.  Approx. distance 40 km.

Mon. Sept 10th :
Cycle the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Gibson through, Sechelt, Half Moon Bay, Secret Cove, Madera Park and to Earls Cove. Approx. distance 72 km.

Tues. Sept 11th :
Ferry from Earls Cove to Saltery Bay, continue along the Sunshine Coast and cycle to Powell River & ferry to Comox / Courtenay.  Approx. distance 78 km.

Wed. Sept 12th :
Cycle along the scenic coastal roads from Courtenay to Nanaimo, stopping at B D Mitchell Prosthetics & Orthotics Office by the Nanaimo Hospital to meet other amputees. We will be stopping in beautiful Qualicum Beach for lunch. Approx. total distance 115 km.

Thurs. Sept 13th :
Cycle from Nanaimo to Chemainus, Cowichan and Mill Bay, ferry over to Brentwood Bay to Victoria. Stopping for lunch in Chemainus to see the famous murials. Approx. distance 102 km.

Frid. Sept 14th :
Your day is free to tour Victoria, Maybe see Butchart Gardens, go whale watching or stop at the famous Empress Hotel for tea.

Optional to meet with other amputees in the morning.

Ferry through the Gulf Islands from Sidney to Tsswwassen and cycle to Vancouver, G F Strong Hospital. Meet other amputees and celebrate. Approx. distance 75 km.
